Zinstance Presents Special Documentary Screening of Beyond Right & Wrong: Stories of Justice and Forgiveness

Tuesday May 20, 2014 19:00 – 21:00, at Lumière Cinema Maastricht

MAASTRICHT, Netherlands — Mike Brouwer of Zinstance will host a special screening of the documentary Beyond Right & Wrong: Stories of Justice and Forgiveness on Tuesday, May 20 from 19:00 to 21:00 (Central European Time) at Lumière Cinema Maastricht. This screening is part of the larger Beyond Right & Wrong 2014 Viewership Campaign to garner views for the film while raising $500,000 for charity.

In Beyond Right & Wrong, victims of three devastating conflicts — the Rwandan Genocide,  the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and the Troubles in Northern Ireland — struggle to forgive without sacrificing their need for justice. This life-changing documentary allows viewers to delve deeply into the familiar battles for reconciliation and recovery, opening their eyes to the multifaceted expression of human resilience.

Co-directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Turner and Hooch, Tomorrow Never Dies) and fine-art photographer Lekha Singh, this transformative documentary has won multiple awards (Best Avant-Garde Film, American Psychological Association; Best Documentary Film, Fingal Film Festival; Runner-up for Best Documentary, LA Jewish Film Festival; Social Impact Award, The Collective) and garnered worldwide attention since its initial release last year. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon presented the film to the General Assembly before they adopted a far-reaching resolution for the peaceful mediation of conflict.

“The stories broke my heart yet gave me enormous hope,” says Singh. “I hope this film illustrates the strength of the survivors and expresses the possibility of an alternative path towards justice, a solution rooted in neither violence nor hatred.”

The Beyond Right & Wrong 2014 Viewership Campaign launched in February on FilmRaise, an online platform that harnesses the assets and resources of top human rights organizations to increase the viewership of film. Partnering charities (Anasazi Foundation, Building Bridges for Peace, Cinema for Peace, ConnecTeach, Creative Visions, Empower Mali, Free the Children, Jeans 4 Justice, Kidnected World, Malala Fund, Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory, PeacePlayers International, Utah Rotary, Search for Common Ground, Solar Electric Light Fund, Utah Refugee Center, WITNESS and Women for Women International) will collectively earn up to $500,000. For every 1000 viewers they secure, partnering charities collect $500 from a prize pot made possible by generous donations from Operation Kids Foundation and Share the Mic. Viewers can choose a charity to support by watching Beyond Right & Wrong at filmraise.com/beyond-right-and-wrong.
